Hypnotherapy to lose weight
Everyone knows that a healthy diet and plenty of exercise is recommended for a healthy lifestyle. It’s simple enough, eat less, eat healthier foods and exercise more. So why do so many of us struggle to control our weight?
No diets. No willpower
80% of all dieters fail to lose weight and one-third even gain additional weight. In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine a group of researchers found that diet-induced weight loss alters hormone levels that regulate body weight and hunger levels. This leads to “successful” dieters putting the weight back on. Dieting does not address the root causes of weight issues.

Why do we struggle with food?
The human body has an amazing mechanism for letting us know when we are hungry and when we are full. Those who overeat often ignore the signs of being full and continue to eat. There are a number of reasons why individuals may do this.
The need to eat often satisfies our mind rather than the physical need to eat to survive. Changing the role food plays in our lives can be the key to long-term weight loss.
How can hypnotherapy help with weight loss?
Hypnotherapy can address the root causes behind an individual’s overeating. Once you have addressed, understood and changed the reasons why you overeat then you will feel there is no need to overeat.
Hypnotherapy can help to:
- identify why you overeat
- understand what you get from overeating
- change your relationship with food
- change your eating habits
- give you control
- develop a new self image
- think more positively
- learn how to enjoy food more
There are no diets involved, no forbidden foods, no complicated systems and no counting calories.

The research
In a study of 109 people spilt into two weight management groups (one using hypnosis for weight loss and one not using hypnosis), the hypnosis for weight loss group continued to get results in the two-year follow-up, while the non-hypnosis group showed no further results.
Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985
In a study of 60 women separated into hypnosis versus non-hypnosis groups, at the 6 month follow up stage, the groups using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds, while the non-hypnosis group lost an average of only 0.5 pounds.
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1986.
In collective studies of hypnosis versus no hypnosis the average short-term weight loss was 6 pounds for those not using hypnosis and 11.83 pounds with hypnosis.
Even more importantly, over the long term the average weight loss without hypnosis remained at 6 pounds, but with hypnosis it jumped to 14.88 pounds indicating that the effects of hypnosis seem to continue over time.
