What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy that uses hypnosis.
What is hypnosis?
The easiest way to understand what hypnosis is and why it is useful is to understand how the mind works.
How the mind works
The mind works in two different ways. When you stand up to walk somewhere you can be aware of thinking to yourself, “I want to go to the kitchen”. You make a decision to go somewhere, and you are aware of making that decision. This is one way your mind works, you weigh up options, analyse and make decisions. These are all thoughts that you are aware of and have control over.
The second way in which the mind works we have less control over and usually very little awareness of. For example, when you do get up to walk somewhere you do not generally think about how to walk.
These two different ways of using your mind are often referred to as your conscious mind (all those thoughts you are aware of) and your subconscious mind (all the thoughts you’re not aware of).
TESTIMONIALS
E
I felt calm and collected – much better than previous experiences! Thank you.
Testimonials appearing on this site are individual experiences, reflecting real-life experiences of those who have been treated by myself. However, they are individual results and results do vary. I do not claim that they are typical results that consumers will generally achieve. The testimonials are not necessary.
Take a glance at the photo of the woman below:

As quickly as you glanced at her you knew she was angry. You may have imagined her shouting out some very choice words. You didn’t decide to assess whether she looks angry or not, you didn’t make a conscious decision. It just happens quickly, and easily without any analysing or effort. This is your subconscious mind working.
Now to experience your conscious mind working. Try and work out the following:
13 x 17
Whether you can solve it with or without a pen and paper, you probably know you can solve it but the answer does not come quickly and easily. It takes time and effort to work it out.

Can hypnotherapy help me?
Sometimes we try to solve problems with our conscious mind when the solution should be to use the subconscious mind.
For example, a smoker may know he wants to stop smoking, he might make the decision to stop one morning (conscious mind) but find that he is unable to stop. Someone who wants to lose weight may know what they need to do and may make that conscious decision to stop but then cave into temptation. These are examples of people trying to solve their problems using just their conscious minds.
It is not always as easy as just wanting to change, we all have needs, emotions, and behaviours that can be more difficult to change.
Hypnosis is a tool that enables us to communicate more with the subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind controls your needs, emotions, and behaviour. Simply deciding to stop overeating, smoking or being anxious is not enough. Success will come when needs and emotions are also addressed.
Your conscious mind is limited, it takes energy and effort to try and change some behaviours. Your conscious mind has limited beliefs about what you can and cannot achieve. Your subconscious mind never tires never switches off and isn’t limited by beliefs.
Most people have experienced a time when they achieved something they didn’t think they could achieve. Consciously you didn’t believe you could do it. Many people have had ideas of things they want to achieve, whether it’s writing a book, running their own business or something else but then they stop themselves before they even try because they don’t believe they can do it. Don’t be limited by your conscious mind. You have a subconscious mind that is very powerful, and that works quickly, easily, and effortlessly.
Hypnosis can help. A growing body of research supports the ancient practice as an effective tool in the treatment of a variety of problems, from anxiety to chronic pain.
